Original orange cloth, stamped in black to front cover and spine, top edge stained orange, in the original dust jacket with the price of $2.00 at the top of the inside front flap; pp. [vi], 244, [2]; slight wear to spine extremities, light spotting to text block, jacket chipped at head and tail of spine and with a few small nicks and closed tears, pencil marks to rear panel; occasional faint spotting, but otherwise a very good, clean copy; small bookplate “From George Nobbe Westport Connecticut” to front pastedown. First edition, published several months before the first UK edition, of the first collection of Parker Pyne stories. Issued on 20 June 1934 (and later in the UK as Parker Pyne Investigates , William Collins Sons, November 1934), the volume brings together twelve short stories centred on the retired civil servant who advertises in the Times “Personal” column, offering to cure unhappiness.
