Doctor Zhivago. First edition in English of Pasternak's classic novel. After it was refused publication in the Soviet Union, the manuscript was smuggled to Italy, where it was first published in 1957. It was an immediate success and has been adapted to screen a number of times, most famously in the 1965 film adaptation starring Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, and Alec Guinness. This edition appeared the same year that Pasternak won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
