DON CARLOS POR LA GRACIA DE DIOS…CON FECHA DE DIEZ DE ABRIL DE ESTE AÑO HE TENIDO A BIEN EXPEDIR MI REAL DECRETO DEL TENOR SIGUIENTE: CON PRESENCIA DE LAS CONSULTAS QUE ME HAN HECO MIS CONSEJOS DE ... An addendum to the Spanish royal degree regarding the Pragmática Sanción de Matrimonios. The Pragmática legally mandated all males under the age of twenty five and all females under the age of twenty three of any class or race to secure formal consent from their father in order to marry, and applied to Spain as well as all of its overseas possessions. This decree promulgates an amendment to that rule which made it an even more effective tool for preserving socio-economic hierarchy in the Spanish dominions, confirming that the father "no estará obligado á dar la razon, ni explicar la causa de su resistencia ó disenso." The king also orders local officials in the Spanish Empire to obey and publish the original decree with its amendments. This copy, stamp-signed "Yo el Rey," was delivered to Santiago de Chile, with the extensive manuscript docket and full signature of Royal Governor Luis Muñoz Guzman and the signature and rubric of his secretary.OCLC locates only one copy of this document, at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
