Chaucer and Boccaccio : Antiquity and Modernity, Hardcover by Edwards, Robert R., ISBN 033397008X, ISBN-13 9780333970089, Like New Used, Free shipping in the US The most illuminating context for reading Geoffrey Chaucer, claims Edwards (English and comparative literature, Pennsylvania State U.) is his relation to other writers and to the imagined literary realm that he identifies as the world of autours. He focuses on the 14th-century English poet's borrowing from his Italian contemporary Giovanni Boccaccio. He also argues that Chaucer's intertextualtiy is historical as well as poetic, thus reviving an interpretation that has not been well lubricated since the 15th century. Annotation c.
