The author is not the noted French orientalist and early translator of the Arabian Nights, who lived a century before, but rather a publisher who was part of the Commission des Sciences et Arts sent to Egypt with the French army and charged with producing what would become the Description de l’Égypte . See Ibrahim-Hilmy I, 252 and J-M. Carré, I: 147.
