The Moonbeam Wish Book. First and only edition of this charmingly illustrated compilation of "wishes", comprising extracts by authors such as Shakespeare, Goethe, and Shelley alongside original verse. Intended to be used when the moon is in its first quarter, the entries are arranged monthly and have spaces for the reader to compose their own "wish"; two have been annotated in a contemporary hand.Crawford (1846-1934) was a teacher who ran a private boarding school for girls and boys in Brooklyn from 1868 to 1911. In the preface, she writes that the book was intended to "preserve the loving wishes often expressed by my pupils".WorldCat records just six institutional holdings, all in the US: the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, Brown University, and the universities of Connecticut, Texas, and Wisconsin-Madison.
