HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION OF THE CRIPPLE CREEK MINING DISTRICT. MINING AND BUSINESS DIRECTORY, CITY OF CRIPPLE CREEK AND ADJACENT TOWNS. A history and description of Cripple Creek with sketches of towns within the Cripple Creek mining district. Includes descriptions of local business establishments and biographical information about their owners, as well as a section on "Mines, Mills and Prospects." The directory includes business directories for Altman, Anaconda, Mound City, and Victor, plus a directory of the mines within the Cripple Creek Mining District. The author notes in his preface the difficulties under which he labored to produce this directory and history. "[I] wish to say that during the turmoil and excitement caused by the fabulously rich discoveries of gold occurring so frequently, with every owner of mine or prospect lost to all thoughts save that of gold...the gleanings of facts within this book, have been attended with many difficulties and only accomplished by great diligence and perseverance...." The advertisements are also of interest, with several illustrated, one showing a "Crawford Improved Gold Extractor." An important and uncommon work, with just five auction records - the most recent being six years ago, with none of the copies sold being in comparable condition.
