The project was started in 1909 by the then minister of communications Baron Goto. The idea was to produce 'A Japanese Baedeker' for Asia and this they did successfully replicating the quality and detail of the maps and information. This fine example has the original dust-jacket and the original slipcase. First edition. Small 8vo, x, 488pp, numerous maps and plans, some illustrations in text, one full page colour plate: publisher's brown cloth gilt, original brown printed dust-jacket (small hole on spine), housed in original slipcase, printed label; a very good copy.
