Late 19th-century red morocco, boards panelled in gilt with 2 triple-filleted borders and corner pieces, spine richly gilt in compartments, lettered directly in gilt in one, rich gilt turn-ins, gilt edges, marbled endpapers, red silk place marker; pp. xvi, 292, with a steel engraved frontispiece and two plates; extremities slightly rubbed, hinges splitting at head; some variable spotting but overall very good. First edition, handsomely bound , of this treatise on foxhunting and hound management, addressed to "a young sportsman, about to undertake a hunting establishment". The author, John Cook, served as a colonel in the 28th Regiment of Light Dragoons, a cavalry unit raised in March 1795 and disbanded in 1802.
