Black Characters in the Brazilian Novel: Afro-American Culture & Society Monogrpah Series CAAS, UCLA The aim of this research is, first, to see how Black characters have been described in the Brazilian novel. Thie second aim is to analyze the Black character in relation to the structures of the society in which he lived, namely, the structures described in the novel. The third aim is to establish the moral position of the write with regard to his characters, starting from the principle that all Brazilians, Black or white, progressive or reactionary, willingly or unwillingly have to a greater or lesser extent been conditioned by slavery.
