Burton’s original expedition to Midian, the narrative of which had been published in the previous year, provided valuable information on this region to the north east of the Red Sea. In his preface to this sequel, Burton informs the reader that the earlier work had been intended simply as an introduction to the region and a forerunner to The Land of Midian (Revisited) , whose aim was to provide mineralogical information on the region.
