MAP OF THE BULLFROG MINING DISTRICT NYE COUNTY NEVADA. A scarce map of the briefly prolific Bullfrog mining district in Nye County, Nevada, adjacent to Beatty and Goldfield. Discovered in 1904, the Bullfrog district was part of the early-20th-century mining boom in Nevada, following a bust period as the Comstock lode fizzled out in the 1870s and 80s. The Bullfrog district was rich in just about anything the miner could want, including gold, silver, copper, lead, and even uranium. After an initial burst of prospecting and settlement centered on the town of Rhyolite, mining in the Bullfrog region continued with marginal success until the First World War extinguished any hope of a revitalization.This map, issued by the Forward Mining Development Company and the Patrick Investment Company, shows the Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad extending to Rhyolite but not yet up to Goldfield, and was likely produced a few years into the boom in 1907. Likely intended to encourage investment or even immigration, the map depicts a jumble of mining claims around the towns of Rhyolite, Bullfrog, and Gold Center, with those backed by the Patrick Investment Company color-coded in red. They also particularly point out the "Famous Montgomery-Shoshone Group bought by Chas. Schwab for 5,000,000." The Patrick Investment Company appears to have invested heavily in infrastructure as well as mining concerns, as the map also shows the "Patrick automobile line" and the "Patrick pipeline," servicing Rhyolite.
