GOLD MINING IN CALIFORNIA. A fine handcolored lithograph by Currier & Ives, depicting placer miners in California during the Gold Rush. In the foreground, two men are shown shoveling sediment into a Long Tom capped with a sluice box, while another man scoops up the remainder and deposits it into a rocker box. Behind them, another trio work hard rock with pickaxes and a high-pressure hose. A small mining camp can be seen in the distance, with a group of redwood stumps as evidence of their construction activities. Number eleven in the New Best 50 Currier & Ives prints. Not in Peters.
