From an edition limited to 7700 copies, this is number 2182. The prints reproduced here were originally made between 1886 and 1894, capitalizing on a widespread popular nostalgia for the Civil War. The prints collected here are introduced by brief endorsements by Ulysses S. Grant III and Robert E. Lee IV, with both of their signatures in this limited edition."Kurz and Allison prints were resolutely ANTIphotographic. The printmakers spurned a photographic look for a nostalgic one - nostalgic not for the war but for the lithographic medium in which it was first brought home to the common people....The unusual subject matter is perhaps more remarkable than any other quality of Kurz and Allison's work and goes a long way toward making up for the firm's many historical inaccuracies.
