GEORGE GILBERT. Dark Shadow. London: Nigel Greenwood Inc, 1976 8vo. Red and black mottled cloth and lettered in gilt; ff. [iv], 128, [2]; featuring 129 full page illustrations after photographs; minimal rubbing to binding; fore-edge with a few minor spots; otherwise very good. First edition, number 521 of 2000 copies produced, signed by both artists. The marbled quality of Dark Shadow , hand-marbled cloth created by the pair, is itself reminiscent of George Gilbert's intention to create a textual sculpture. This 'living sculpture' book is structured into eight chapters which explore different aspects of their irreverent work and minds, such as "Human Bondage" and "Gordon's Gin". As they write themselves of their past three years of deviant daily thought. "shadows…and pleasures"; they also explain- "We have turned them into ink and arranged them as words and pictures to form this living sculpture book. We hope that you have a nice time going through it". SKU: 2120500
