In Critical Condition: The Crisis in America's Health Care. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the initial binder's blank, "To Andasia with my Christmas love - Ted. December 1972". The recipient, Andasia Reynolds Bennett (1898-1984), was the step-grandmother of Kennedy's wife, Joan, who added below: "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Lots of love, Joan". Kennedy chaired the Senate Health Subcommittee and made universal health care a defining cause of his political career. His book collects evidence presented to the subcommittee and advocates the Health Security Act, which would have introduced comprehensive, universal health insurance.
