Dunn began his career as a stage actor, landing a lead on Broadway in 1929's Sweet Adeline. His Broadway performance led to him getting signed as a player for Twentieth Century Fox in 1931. He did a number of his best-known films with Fox, including Bright Eyes 1934 alongside Shirley
