First US edition of the author's most famous book. The novel concerns the pursuit for gold of three "American derelicts" in the Mexican mountains during a context of global turbulance following the upheaval of WWI; a dangerous pursuit that plays catalyst to blood and deceit. John Huston's 1948 adaptation of the book won him the Oscars for both Best Director and Best Screenplay as well as the Best Supporting Actor gong for his father, Walter, while also featuring one of Humphrey Bogart's most memorable performances.
