Original issue of The Sunday Times Magazine, 18 October 1964, with a striking fashion portrait on the front cover. An especially interesting issue for collectors of twentieth-century photography, illustration and design. Highlights include: Richard Avedon – photographs from Nothing Personal, his celebrated collaboration with James Baldwin, examining American society and its contradictions. Includes a striking photograph of the Everly Brothers. Philip Jones Griffiths – photographs accompanying Godfrey Blakely's report, Patricians Under Pressure, examining Italy's industrial and aristocratic elite, including the Agnelli family and Fiat. Tomi Ungerer – a double-page selection of drawings from The Underground Sketchbook, displaying his distinctive satirical style. The Japanese Eye – an extensively illustrated colour feature tracing the history of Japanese art, with photographs by Bradley Smith. Further material includes Frank Manolson's illustrated feature on dog breeds and period advertising. A fascinating combination of major photographic contributors, graphic illustration, Japanese art and 1960s editorial design. A well-preserved copy with an attractive front cover, some minor surface marks and light wear to the edges. The binding remains tight and the illustrated pages present well. Further original Sunday Times Magazine issues from the 1960s–1980s are listed separately.
