B.C. IN A.D. 1938. A presentation copy, inscribed to Edith and Curt Munson on the verso of the front free endpaper: "To Edith and Curt – Who, by their many kindnesses, made our trip such a success Gladys." This rare, privately printed account of a summer hunting trip in British Columbia was written by philanthropist, equestrian, and big game hunter, Gladys Fries Harriman (1896-1983). Together with her financier husband, E. Roland "Bunny" Harriman (son of railroad baron Edward Henry Harriman and brother of New York Governor W. Averell Harriman), Gladys traveled with a group to British Columbia first by private seaplane, and then overland on to reach their hunting grounds. The book includes daily entries from August 15 to September 10, 1938, and is illustrated throughout with photographs taken along the trip, with numerous shots of Gladys Harriman and her party hunting, in camp, hiking, preparing food, beside seaplanes, and more. The hunting party was stalking Bighorn sheep, caribou, and mountain goats; their kills are recorded on the last page of the book.The book is inscribed to the Harrimans' hosts in Edmonton, Curtis Munson (1892-1980) and his wife, Edith Cummings Munson (1899-1984), both mentioned in the text. Curt, like Bunny Harriman, was a Yale graduate and had made his fortune in Edmonton-based coal and lumber companies. Curt was also a passionate big game hunter and horseman.
