This is the first English edition after the 1881 rebellion and the bombardment of Alexandria by an Anglo-French fleet in 1882 with the defeat of Arabi Pasha. The general map shows the Egyptian Empire extended into the Northern Hedjaz and in the South to the sources of the White Nile. This and succeeding editions are considered Baedeker classics.
