Sea Garden; Hymen; Heliodora and Other Poems. First editions, Ludmila Bloch Savitzky's copies. Hymen and Heliodora are presentation copies, each inscribed by H.D. to Savitzky "with appreciation"; the inscription in Heliodora is dated 22 May 1924 (perhaps the date of their meeting). Savitzky's copy of Sea Garden is not inscribed, but she has annotated it throughout with translations into French.Savitzky (1881–1957), a Russian-born French actress and translator, played an important role in introducing and mediating transnational modernism. She translated works by Virginia Woolf, Christopher Isherwood, and James Joyce, introducing Joyce to Sylvia Beach and later producing the first French translation of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1924). Her translations of four poems by H.D. remain unpublished.
