The Breitmann Ballads. First edition, presentation copy, from the library of the English caricaturist George Cruikshank (1792-1878), with his signature on the title page and a presentation inscription on the half-title, "G. Cruikshank with the Publisher's respectful compliments". Often called the successor to Hogarth, Cruikshank supplemented his caricature work by illustrating books, notably the first English translation of Grimm's Fairy Tales in 1823.This is the first full edition. The poems were originally published in magazines, the earliest in 1857.
