DEPOSITIO CORNUTI TYPOGRAPHICI THAT IS A COMICAL OR MIRTHFUL PLAY WHICH CAN BE PERFORMED WITHOUT ANY OFFENCE, AT THE RECEPTION AND CONFIRMATION OF A JOURNEYMAN WHO HAS LEARNED HONESTLY THE NOBLE ART ... From an edition limited to 250 copies, published by the Grolier Club and printed by Daniel Berkeley Updike at the Merrymount Press in Boston. This entertaining and enlightening play prints William Blades' English translation of a German work originally printed in 1654. The Depositio Cornuti was a comedy performed by printers' apprentices who were prepared to apply for full membership as a journeyman; like all good humor, however, it is nonetheless based on true experience, and offers us some of our best insight into the status and activities of German printers in the 17th century. This text is "reprinted as acted at The Grolier Club, January 28, 1909."
