NARRATIVE OF THE FIRST ENGLISH PLANTATION OF VIRGINIA. A reprint, issued by Bernard Quaritch in 1893, of Theodor De Bry's illustrated edition of Thomas Hariot's A Brief and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. This was one of four texts reprinted by Quaritch in 1893 as part of their series "Narratives of the Discoverers of America." "Hariot's Report had been published in London in 1588 without illustrations, but de Bry and his workshop of talented engravers added twenty-two plates derived from watercolors John White had made at the English settlement of Roanoke...De Bry's engravings are the most important and accurate illustrations of North Americans published in the century after Columbus" - Reese & Miles. The present text is reproduced after De Bry's English-language edition, published in Frankfurt in 1590, complete with facsimiles plates of De Bry's engravings as well as the double-page map. The reprint is preceded by a brief preface.
