Ray Johnson (1927-1995) was an accomplished draughtsman, collagist, cut-up poet, and occasional performance artist who collaborated with a range of artists on the fringes of the avant-garde. He was at the centre of a far-reaching mail art network – The New York Correspondence School, which he founded in the early 1960s.
