Ashkenazi Passover Haggadah published in London with a special translation of 'Adir Hu' to Yiddish at the end of the volume. All three editions of this Haggadah were published on the same year, the third edition offered here being the one 'with copious explanatory notes'. A Sephardic rite Haddagah by R. Mendes was also published the same year. Abraham Pereira Mendes (1825-1893) was a Jamaican-born rabbi and educator. He served in Jamaica, England, and the USA. In London he studied under Dr. David Meldola, son of Haham Raphael Meldola, as well as under his future father-in-law, the Rev. D. A. de Sola, known as 'the learned Hazzan' of the Sephardic community, and received his diplomas. Mendes was the first among the Sephardim to publish a volume of sermons in English (1855). He also translated the Daily Prayer book of the German Jews (Valentine's edition), and completed the translation of the Festival and Holy Day books by Rev. D. A. de Sola (who's daughter Mendes married), which were left incomplete after his death. Mendes's other publications included 'The Law of Moses', 'Post-Biblical History of the Jews (to fall of Jerusalem)', 'The Students Prayer Book - A New Interlineary Translation of the Daily, Sabbath and Festival Prayers' (German), and the Haggadah offered here.
