The Heart's Journey. First edition, signed limited issue, presentation copy inscribed by Sassoon on the half-title: "To Dr Kaltenbach of Untergrainau, from one who will always be grateful to him. Siegfried Sassoon, Easter 1929". Kaltenbach treated Sassoon's lover Steven Tennent for a serious lung condition in 1928.The issue numbered 590 copies signed by the author on the title page and printed on rag paper. This copy is one of 250 reserved for sale in the UK, as specified on the front flap of the dust jacket. The Heart's Journey "greatly increased [Sassoon's] reputation and represents his full flowering as a poet" (ODNB). Its typography is by the notable American book designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957), who in 1948 was awarded a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for distinction in the graphic arts.
