FACSIMILE OF THE LAWS AND ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THEIR MAJESTIES PROVINCE OF NEW-YORK, etc., etc., AT NEW-YORK. PRINTED AND SOLD BY WILLIAM BRADFORD, PRINTER TO THEIR MAJESTIES KING WILLIAM ... A facsimile edition, published by the Grolier Club two hundred years after the original, of what Charles Hildeburn herein describes as "the most precious work, historically and commercially, issued by the press of New-York." Originally printed in 1694 by William Bradford - the "pioneer printer of the English middle colonies" (DAB) and New York's first printer - The Laws & Acts of the General Assembly for Their Majesties Province of New-York was the first collection of the laws of New York and one of the earliest official New York imprints. Sabin describes the original edition as "excessively rare." Only seven copies were known to exist in 1894, according to Hildeburn. Wilberforce Eames noted nine copies in 1928. The present facsimile edition is one of 312 copies, printed on English handmade paper by the De Vinne Press, featuring three headpieces and one plate showing William Bradford's tombstone, all etched by Max Rosenthal. Included is a bibliographical note on the first edition by Charles R. Hildeburn. Evans notes the Grolier Club's facsimile in his entry for the 1694 edition. An attractive copy of this facsimile edition from the Grolier Club of a rare and early New York imprint.
