A narrative of one of the first recorded accounts of the crossing of the Rub al Khali by camel, the great "Empty Quarter", including researches carried out in the Dhofar province. He was aided by Bedouin of the Rashid tribe and he describes the desert, its peoples, and wildlife in tender detail. Bertram Thomas (1892-1950) served in Iraq and Jordan before being Wazir to Taimur bin Feisal, the Sultan of Oman, between 1925 and 1932.
