A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

£3,750 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

A very sharp copy of this core work by Joyce, here in the earliest London edition, using American sheets from the Huebsch printing as English publishers refused to print the text. With the bookplate of George Heron Milne (1887-1948), who was a librarian at the Library of Congress or 39 years and was chief of the Congressional Reading Room from 1937 to 1948. First English edition, from American sheets; 8vo; bookplate to front pastedown, some offsetting to endpapers, else unmarked internally; publisher's dark green cloth, upper cover titled in blind, titles to spine gilt, very slightly bumped at spine ends, else an unusually nice copy; housed in custom green cloth folding box. Slocum Cahoon A12.
