The scarce first edition of this Kansas promotional, prepared by the State Board of Agriculture and written by its secretary, William Sims. The text provides a wealth of information on the state's agricultural production and potential, backed by statistics, and on government lands available for settlers and how they may be obtained. The many illustrations show farms and ranches around the state, and the folding colored map of Kansas, by Rand, McNally, is quite detailed. OCLC lists only a German-language edition of 1883, and an English-language edition of 1884, but not the present 1883 English-language edition. Howes notes only the German edition.
