The Golden Treasury Series. An excellent selection, finely bound, from the verse offerings of Macmillan's Golden Treasury Series. It includes Palgrave's two original anthologies and three volumes by his great friend Tennyson, who inspired the project.Palgrave's verse anthology The Golden Treasury (1861) "remains one of those rare instances in which a critical work has substantive imaginative value, and entitles its author to rank among creative artists" (ODNB). It includes lyrics and songs from Wordsworth, Keats, Shelley, and Byron. Its success inspired a sequel and then an entire series, which involved moralistic works, anthologies, poetry, fiction, and prose.
