MAP OF KEARNEY, NEBRASKA 1890. A large, detailed, and apparently unrecorded map of Kearney, Nebraska, created by W.W. Alt, a prolific surveyor and cartographer of the state. Printed at an impressive scale of 500 feet to the inch, the map depicts every block in the city and its lots and neighborhoods. The city limits of Kearney and the boundaries of its four wards are shown, as well as the neighboring town of West Kearney. The map also shows railway lines and the course of the North Channel of the Platte River, running along the southern edge of the town. Subdivisions, additions, and lots are located and their owners named, and the locations of the Kearney fairgrounds and the town cemetery are also given. Outside of the town proper, plots of land are labeled with their owner's name, most of them belonging to individual men, but one belonging to Susan Hinman and another to Maria Alden. Other plots are owned by the State of Nebraska and the Mutual Loan and Investment Company. This map was lithographed by H.B. Stranahan & Company of Cleveland, though published by W.W. Alt, who was assisted in the mapping by E.N. Porterfield, the city engineer. Large, detailed, and rare; we locate no copies on OCLC - or anywhere else.
