The "Rheinlande" was one of the longest series published by Baedeker and had its origins in the modest "Rheinreise" written by Professor Klein and published by Röhling in 1828. The title eventually changed to "Rheinlande" in 1854. These Biedermeier boards were only used by Baedeker during the 1840's and the early part of the 1850's. This is the last edition with Profesor Klein's name is still printed on the title-page. Plans include Strassburg, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Bonn, Cologne and Aachen. Fifth edition. xlviii, 392 pp, 12 lithographed views including frontispiece,one folding map of the Rhine, 8 engraved plans, all pages and plans browned as is usual; restored preserving most of the publisher's original yellow pictorial Biedermeier boards; a very good copy.
