The Girl in a Swing. First edition, first issue, inscribed by the author on the title page "To John, with sincere good wishes, Richard Adams, 13 October 1984". John Hitchin (1933-2021) was marketing director at Penguin, of which Allen Lane is an imprint, at the time of publication. He was later president of the Bookseller's Association and a founder of World Book Day.The suppressed first issue gives the female character's name as Käthe Geutner. Later issues changed the character's name to Karin Forster, or Wasserman, after a libel suit by a woman of the original name.
