Hercule Poirot Novels (First Folio Society Edition)

A$750 · Offered by Harry Hartog Rare Books

Four landmark Poirot novels in the Folio Society’s illustrated companion to its Miss Marple set, with colour plates by Andrew Davidson and an introduction by Anthony Horowitz. Hercule Poirot appeared in print in The Mysterious Affair at Styles , Agatha Christie’s first novel, written in 1916 and published in the United States in October 1920 and in England in January 1921. He is a Belgian refugee in an English country house, narrated by his friend Captain Hastings. Christie went on to write 33 Poirot novels, two plays and more than fifty short stories between 1920 and 1975. When Curtain appeared in 1975, Poirot became the only fictional character to be given a front-page obituary in the New York Times . The four novels chosen here span Poirot’s career, from his debut in Styles to Murder on the Orient Express (1934), The ABC Murders (serialised in 1935 and published in book form in January 1936) and Death on the Nile (1937). In The ABC Murders , letters signed “A.B.C.” announce a series of alphabetically ordered killings, and Poirot discovers that the pattern disguises an ordinary motive. The Folio Society issued the Poirot novels in 2014, following its Miss Marple set of 2013. Andrew Davidson provided the illustrations for both, and Anthony Horowitz, who has adapted the novels for television, wrote the introduction. The volumes were also available individually, each in a coloured buckram binding. CHRISTIE, Agatha. Hercule Poirot Novels. The Mysterious Affair at Styles; Murder
