An illustrated guider to Manchuria. “From Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to Manchuria, China, is a far cry and yet in the matter of the South Manchuria Railway there is an important and interesting association between the two places. In September, 1905, the Peace Treaty was concluded between Japan and Russia at Portsmouth. This Treaty terminated thee Russian-Japanese war. By this Treaty the Kwantung territory, which had been leased by China to Russia, was transferred to Japan, and the Southern portion of a great railway running through Manchuria as far as Changchun, and originally the property of Russia, was also transferred to Japn.” (A New and Modern Railway in an Ancient Land).
