JAMES, M. R.

£375 · Offered by Peter Harrington · No longer available

The Five Jars. First edition. James's only novel and only children's book is a "fanciful, mildly ironic, and very pleasurable" fantastical tale that was written for the daughter of James's late close friend James McBryde and to be read to the students of Eton, where James was serving as Provost (Bleiler). His first collection, Ghost-Stories of an Antiquary, was published in 1904 and established him as an icon of British horror.
