Discover the compelling photographic work of Larry Sultan, whose exploration of Los Angeles's San Fernando Valley has captivated audiences since 1988. Renowned for his unique perspective, Sultan's series "The Valley" offers a thought-provoking meditation on the intersection of domestic life and the adult film industry. Through a dense collection of images, Sultan captures the subtle details of middle-class homes invaded by the world of pornography, revealing a complex narrative that challenges perceptions of suburbia, desire, and transgression. This collection is not a straightforward documentary on porn filmmaking. Sultan's artful play with artifice and reality creates rich, elliptical stories that revolve around themes of "home" and "desire." The images of homes, gardens, porn actors, film crews, studio and location shoots form an ambiguous meditation on the layered realities of suburban life at the dawn of the 21st century. "The Valley" explores the complexity of domestic life, opening new perspectives for photography through its innovative blend of staged and documentary images. The photographs depict a range of scenes—from homes and gardens to film sets—highlighting the utopias and dystopias of middle-class existence, family, and transg
