The Waggoner and other Poems. First edition, first issue, inscribed by the author one month after publication, "K. J. Franklin from Edmund Blunden. 28 Septr 1920." Kenneth James Franklin (1897-1966) studied at Christ's Hospital, Horsham, at the same time as Blunden, and both took up places at Oxford after their wartime service. Franklin's book label is on the front pastedown. The Waggoner was issued with the encouragement and assistance of Siegfried Sassoon, to whom Blunden had sent some of his work. The first edition comprised 250 copies bound in purple cloth for immediate issue, as here. Of the remaining 250 sets of sheets, 100 were sent to New York for Knopf's American edition, and 150 were bound in green cloth later in 1920.
