privately printed issue This is a privately printed issue by Benjamin Hawes for his brother William who accompanied Charles Fellows on the fourteenth ascent of Mont Blanc. This charming production contains the plate of heights as a frontispiece and four hand-coloured lithographs including a double page one by Samuel Birman. The plates include Chamonix, The Glacier des Boissons, the Ascent of Saussure in 1787. Benjamin Hawes was a British Whig politician. Privately printed edition. 4to, (20 x 25 cm), lithographed frontispiece, 3 hand-coloured lithographed plates pasted down on three separate leaves, one double-page hand-coloured lithograph, one folding facsimile letter, inscription on free endpaper, small lithograph inserted loose, bookplates, decorated endpapers; bound in full contemporary morocco, gilt lettered on upper cover, worn at extremities; overall a very good copy; 35pp Neate H55; Perret 2186.
