The Way to be Happy all the Day Long;

£850 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

UNRECORDED. OCLC records a handful of other examples of this text printed provincially as broadsides around the country along with a small booklet printing of the text produced in Newry. A moralising set of commandments intended to be displayed in the home and “to be read in all families”, instructing the reader to “Begin and end every day with God”, “take heed that you rob nor your Children or Servants, by your intemperance or neglect” and to “Watch daily against every Sin that bests you”. The broadside ends: “Read over these Rules carefully once a week, and examine how you have observed them in the week past. If you follow them, your life will be blessed, your death happy, your Eternity glorious; but if you despise them, and neglect the care of your immortal Souls, remember - LIFE IS SHORT, DEATH, JUDGEMENT, AND ETERNITY ARE FAST APPROACHING, THEREFORE PREPARE TO MEET THY GOOD” George Wilkins was a printer and bookbinder operating in Derby c.1811-1824.
