HARTE, Walter.
Inquire · Offered by Peter Harrington
Essays on Husbandry. First edition of the author's agricultural treatise, supported by a selection of diagrams and illustrations. The first essay offers comment on the political and economic importance of English farming, while the second elaborates on novel experiments with lucerne, the perennial legume, undertaken by Harte himself.Aside from his forays into cultivation, Harte was a poet, an Oxford don, and a canon of Windsor. He was given the rectory of Creed in Cornwall in 1750 and engaged in agricultural work nearby that allowed him to develop the theses of this text. He also published essays on reason, satire, and war.
