Garden Cities in Theory and Practice. First edition of the British engineer's greatest work on city planning and "the authoritative source on garden cities" (Ward, p. 70). In the letters, Sennett offers advice on Cadell's cottage-building project and thanks Cadell for sending several of his recent papers, such as his paper on foreshore reclamation on the Forth. He suggests a visit to Scotland to inspect the cottages and asks to hear more about Cadell's method of moulding concrete blocks. The letters are written on Royal Institution letterhead.Garden Cities includes both a survey of the history of the garden city model and an encyclopaedic appraisal of its practicalities, drawing on British examples as well as schemes in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States. There are annotations to the contents, of which many refer to the sections on cottages.
