His Last Bow:
£750 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books · No longer available
The book came about as a result of the author's determination to to show that Holmes had come to his country's aid during WWI. The preface by Watson is noteworthy on account of the fact that it appears to contain a mistake in that it states that Holmes' time is divided between 'philosophy and agriculture' instead of 'philosophy and apiculture.' This copy is entirely free from the typical oxidisation of the lettering to the spine, which is endemic to most copies due to wartime economy standards. First edition, first impression; 8vo; 6pp ads at rear, light foxing and offsetting to endpapers, occasional minor spotting to text block, else unmarked internally; publisher's red cloth, gilt lettering to spine and upper cover, spine entirely legible, a few marks to cloth, small ink stain to spine, corners and spine ends bumped, slight rubbing to extremities, else very good. Green Gibson A40a.
