The Jerusalem Windows. First edition in English, with two original full-page lithographs by Chagall created especially for the book, bound in as issued. This volume presents Chagall's designs for his series of stained-glass windows created for the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Centre in Jerusalem, inspired by the ancient tribes of Israel and recognised as one of the greatest achievements of his career. The Jerusalem Windows, published the same year as the French edition, Vitraux pour Jerusalem, remains the definitive work on the windows and is an artist's book of the highest calibre. Chagall produced 2 original lithographs especially for this book and directed the printing of a further 36 lithographs of preparatory colour designs.
