[TWO MANUSCRIPT DOCUMENTS, ONE SIGNED BY QUEEN ISABELLA AND THE OTHER BY KING FERDINAND, THE CATHOLIC MONARCHS OF SPAIN, TOGETHER WITH A COLLECTION OF TWO ENGRAVED PLATES AND THREE ENGRAVINGS, ALL ... An interesting group of materials, collected in a large folio album, all related, as the title on the front board of the album indicates, to "Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, Patrons of Columbus." The most significant of these materials are two early Spanish documents, one signed by Queen Isabella I of Castile and the other by King Ferdinand II of Aragon. Also included are two engraved plates, one being a portrait of King Ferdinand and the other a portrait of Christopher Columbus, as well as three other clipped engravings. The Queen Isabella document is executed in the miniscule scribal hand of her secretary, Gaspar de Grizio: "Yo Gaspar de Grizio secretario de la Reyna nuestra señora la fize escribir por su mandado" (Gaspar de Grizio, secretary to our queen, written on her behalf). It is signed by the Queen, "Yo la reyna," and is apparently dated March, 1500. Affixed to the verso of the document by a metal pin is the original embossed seal with wax remnants. The King Ferdinand document is executed in the hand of his secretary, Miguel Pérez de Almazán, "Por mandado de su alteza" (on behalf of the high King).
