A standard reference on the architecture and building of houses in England from the Normans to the early nineteenth century. Nathaniel Lloyd OBE (1867 -1933) was a successful businessman who established Nathaniel Lloyd Co, Lithographic Printers who mostly printed marketing material such as posters. Later in life he turned his efforts towards his passion of architecture, studying under Sir Edwin Lutyens and setting up a small practice of his own. Lloyd also owned and restored the Grade I listed house Great Dixter in East Sussex. First edition, third impression; 4to (32 x 23.5 cm); 888 in-text and photographic illustrations, light spotting to a few leaves; publisher's green cloth, gilt lettering to spine and upper board, a little sun-faded, otherwise a very good copy; ix, 487pp.
