William Hadfield (1806-1887) was a successful English business who made his fortune in Brazil and Argentina following the boom in the South American economy after the Napoleonic Wars. He resided in both Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, making money investing in railways and steamships including founding the first steamship agency in Buenos Aires.
